Greetings

Thank you for visiting our website. We, Saitama Railway co., ltd. provide fast and convenient transportation services to the center area of Tokyo for residents of Kawaguchi, Hatogaya and the eastern part of Saitama. Passengers can directly go to the center area of Tokyo without transferring at Akabane-Iwabuchi station as we jointly operate lines with Tokyo Metro “Nanboku-line” and Tokyu “Meguro-line”. In addition, passengers also can easily go not only to the Saitama area but also the eastern and western side of metropolitan area by transferring to JR Musashino-line at Higashi-Kawaguchi station.

We keep our best to offer comfortable transportation services as a new line of life for passengers.

Our efforts

We equip the newest items to assure safety so that the passenger’s can use our transportation services more comfortably.

  1. Escalators, elevators and underground bicycle parking lot We equip escalators and elevators at every station so that passengers can move between the ground floor and the underground platform smoothly. Underground bicycle parking lots are provided within 4 stations of Kawaguchi-Motogo, Hatogaya, Araijuku and Higashi-Kawaguchi by municipal governments.
  2. Movable fences We equip movable fences at every platform which simultaneously opens and closes with the train doors in order to secure passenger’s safety.
  3. One man operation (ATO) Trains are operated by one train driver with the ATO (Automatic Train Operation) system from departure. Controls for acceleration and reduction of speed, stopping at the next station are conducted through this system.
  4. Train base A train base is located next to Urawa-Misono station. The general office (60,000㎡ wide) which administers each railway facilities are also located within this base. Trains are detained and serviced there.

Our strengths

We were responsible to establish the main access route to “Saitama Stadium 2002” where the quarter final game of the “FIFA World Cup TM 2002” co-hosted by Japan and the South Korea took place. It takes about 15 minutes from the nearest station of Urawa-Misono to the stadium. The road leading to the stadium is 1.2km long, surrounded by much natural greens, and provided exclusively to pedestrians.

We also contribute to the purification of rivers nearby by equipping water introduction pipes for environment in the tunnels of subway which was the first case in Japan. The water introduction pipes conducts water for environment from Arakawa River for improvement of water quality and secure of flux of Ayase River and Shibakawa River and so on. This action is enhanced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Japan.

Tickets

Passengers may purchase tickets at vending machines of all of the stations. All tickets are valid for transportation from the station of purchase. The vending machines have English guide for purchase. Please note that normal tickets are valid only for the day of purchase.

History

Saitama Railway co.,ltd. was established on March 25, 1992 as a semi-public joint venture company which constructs and operates the subway line “Tokyo No.7” which belongs to Saitama prefecture (Kawaguchi-city, Hatogaya-city and Saitama-city) and started railway operations on March 28, 2001.

Subway line “Tokyo No.7”

Subway line “Tokyo No.7” is a subway line connecting between Meguro and the eastern part of the former Urawa-city (now Saitama-city). Its construction was completed in 1990 according to reports submitted to the ministry of transportation at that time (July 1985) by a transportation policy deliberative council. The line which belongs to Tokyo Metropolitan Government began its construction in February 1986 by the former Tokyo Underground Railway Company (now Tokyo Metro Co., Ltd.) and started operation as a “Nanboku-line (South-North line) in September 1990 between Meguro and Akabane-Iwabuchi.

Saitama Railway line connects between Akabane-Iwabuchi and Urawa-Misono and goes to Hiyoshi (Yokohama-city) by joint operations with Tokyo Metro “Nanboku-line” and Tokyu “Meguro-line”.
